Buffalo Suede & Split Leather

All hides are individually photographed. What you see is exactly what you'll receive unless otherwise stated.

Buffalo Suede & Split Leather

Buffalo splits are suede on both sides and are a practical, less expensive alternative to full grain leather for many projects. We carry a changing selection in a wide range of colors and weights, with hides from approximately 3 to 30 square feet. Some are soft and supple while others have a slightly firmer feel, giving you plenty of choices depending on what you're making.

From Moccasins to Rifle Cases

These hides work well for moccasins, possibles and shooting bags, quivers, rifle cases, buckskin clothing and other traditional leather projects.

The softer hides are a good choice when you want more flexibility, while a firmer or heavier hide can be useful when the project needs more body. With pieces ranging from small to very large, you're not limited to one particular type of project.

Split or Full Grain?

The biggest difference is the surface. A split has a suede surface on both sides, while full grain leather retains the original grain surface of the hide.

If your project doesn't require that grain surface, a split can work just as well and usually costs less. It also gives moccasins, bags, clothing and similar projects the traditional suede appearance many makers are looking for.
