Xtra Thick/Heavy Buffalo/Bison Leather

All hides are individually photographed. What you see is exactly what you'll receive unless otherwise stated.

Xtra Thick/Heavy Buffalo/Bison Leather

Our Xtra Thick/Heavy Buffalo/Bison hides are 7 oz and heavier, giving you substantial leather for projects where thickness and structure matter. These hides have the pronounced pebble grain, wrinkles and grain variation Buffalo leather is known for, but with considerably more weight and body than our lighter hides.

What Is Heavy Buffalo Leather Used For?

These heavier weights are well suited for projects such as moccasin soles, armor, flint knapping pads and other leatherwork that calls for thick, durable material. Weight and temper can vary from hide to hide, so check the individual listing for the exact thickness, size and feel of each piece.

Not sure how leather weight compares to actual thickness? Our Leather Weight & Thickness Guide explains ounce weights and measurements.

Choosing Your Hide

Natural grain, wrinkles, markings and texture will vary across each hide. Our hides and pieces are individually photographed when stated in the listing, so you can see the actual leather you're choosing before you buy.

Don't need leather this heavy? See all of our Full Grain Buffalo/Bison Leather for lighter and medium-weight options.

Not sure which weight will work for what you're making? Contact Us and tell us about your project. We'll be happy to help.
