Veg tan leather is known for its firm temper, durability and ability to be worked in ways many other leathers cannot. One of the biggest advantages of vegetable tanned leather is how well it accepts tooling and decorative work. It can be carved, stamped, tooled and dyed, while unfinished hides can be finished to create your own color and appearance. It can also be wet molded and formed for projects such as holsters, sheaths, cases and other items where the leather needs to hold its shape.

Choosing the Right Weight

Choosing the right thickness depends heavily on what you're making. Lighter weights can work well for wallets, liners and smaller leather goods, while heavier weights are commonly used for belts, straps, holsters, sheaths and other projects requiring a more substantial leather.
